Welcome!

Hi there! We are the Curren Family. We traveled full time in our Airstream from 2013-2017 and now split our time between our small condo in Teton Valley, ID and the road.

The {First} Yard Sale

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your kind words and prayers! We survived our first garage sale last Saturday even with all the rain and wind. We had a lot of people come out, and it was great to see some of our friends! We sold quite a bit. Between selling…

  • That is so cool! I really would like to get rid of a lot of stuff as well! I would start our life so differently knowing what I know now. I really enjoy following all of your adventure.ReplyCancel

Jess, this makes me want to purge everything I own! Jealous of your adventure for sure, but since I can’t have that, you’ve inspired me to at least do some spring cleaning in my home! πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

  • In the last day or so, I’ve explored your blog from beginning to now. The only thing we really have in common with you is RVing and we don’t do that full time. What I am doing is linking interesting and/or useful post on a couple of page at Haw Creek. I think I’ve linked to 8 to 10 of your posts. By doing, I’m learning some new things and discovering new places that I would never have come across. I’m hoping that others may find it useful.

We’re not LDS, but have lived in communities with high LDS concentrations, specifically Idaho Falls and Arco in Idaho. I have long had a great respect for the LDS and have learned more through some of your post.ReplyCancel

Thanks so much for your comments and perusal of our blog! Checked out Haw Creek and it looks great!ReplyCancel

      • You’re welcome, and thanks.

I’ve been blogging for ten or more years now, yet, on this exploration of other people’s blogs, I’m learning and picking up new ideas. For instance, in my most recent post, in the link below this comment, I used your technique of including, near the beginning, when we went, where we stayed and a couple of tips.ReplyCancel

We hope to be full-timing next year at this time. We’ve had 3 yard sales in the past year. It’s sad to see some things go but feels great to a lighter load. Once the kids move out this summer, we can downsize even more. We decided to sell the house ‘furnished.’ We have some nice pieces but they don’t justify paying storage month after month. Like you, if we decide to settle down again, we’ll just start over.ReplyCancel

It is definitely a bitter-sweet experience! We offered our buyers the option of purchasing anything, but we just don’t have nice enough furniture. πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

  • […] Sale(s): Probably my least favorite option, but worked well. Our First Yard Sale was a success despite the crazy rainy weather, and our second Tool Sale/Misc sale also went rather […]ReplyCancel

A Lighter Load

Our house is emptying out. As I look around at bare walls, empty nails, and general less-ness, instead of feeling sorrow, I feel relief. I feel freedom. I feel my burden and load getting lighter. When I have a house full of things, I have to take care of those things, store those things, and…

This Week on Instagram: April 19-25, 2014

Chugging along this week! Got the Airstream beds done enough to order mattresses, did a little bike shopping, celebrated Easter, had a fabulous date night, and prepped for our yard sale!

Airstream on the Salt Flats

As we raced across Nevada to make a decision to sell or not sell the house, we had one last stop to make as we crossed into Utah. More on this later, but here’s one of my favorite photos:

Thank you!! One of these years I think it would be really neat to go for Speed Week. There are only a couple of weeks a year that anything interesting happens out there!ReplyCancel

100% Honesty – I’m Not Doing So Great

Today I am an emotional mess. Only, it probably didn’t start today, it probably started the second we pulled up to the house in the Airsteam and it has just been building over the last week and a half. One thing that I struggle with is I fixate on projects. If something needs to be…

I feel for you, Jess. You are definitely Martha/Mary, except Martha is running a little crazy right now. It’s good that you are staying on top of things and being so productive, but these next two months have the potential to be just as much fun and make just as many memories as while you were on the road. Try making out a schedule for working on projects (even minor ones!) and if it’s not time for that job yet, don’t do it. Set aside time to be with your kids, your husband, or even just take time for yourself. Whether it’s going on day trips, spur of the moment picnics in the backyard, a romantic comedy the hubby after the kids go to bed, or just relaxing with a good book in a bubble bath, make the time to enjoy life! You don’t have to do everything today. You can be super productive mom AND super awesome mom.

Saying a prayer for you tonight… ReplyCancel

Maybe this means you need to take a trip somewhere….like Hyrum, UT home of the famous one stoplight!ReplyCancel

I can totally feel for you! we have lived allover the country for my husbands job. I homeschool too. moving is so stressful. I find that educational movies on Netflix have been my saving grace. plus I do try to have me time once a day while the baby sleeps. I hope you don’t mind if I keep reading your blog. It is so cool and I feel glad knowing other people live an unconventional lifestyle too!ReplyCancel

I definitely don’t mind if you keep reading! Its really helpful to know others in similar circumstances. It helps us realize that we aren’t crazy!ReplyCancel

Have you ever done the Gallup/Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment? It sounds like you have the Achiever strength theme. I have it too. It manifests itself as a relentless drive to accomplish something every single day. I have had those same moments when it takes over and makes me insane, but I have found that it is helpful to break that one nagging chore I want done into smaller pieces. Even if it is a “one step and done” sort of thing, like finding a TV stand. For instance, I might choose to just browse Craig’s List today for options. I do only that piece and then I feel like I have at least made forward progress. It also helps me to feel better about laying aside tomorrow’s other chores to go look at the item I found listed. Anyway, your strengths are definitely a part of how God designed you and we know He does not make mistakes. You are in my prayers! ReplyCancel

what? it’s a sickness and NOT a way of life? I feel your pain. Some days I can’t figure out if I’ve slowed down…or if I’ve just turned into a procrastinator…or if i’m truly trying to enjoy the journey. You’re NOT a terrible mom, of course! You’re a mom with a ton of stuff on your plate and trying to organize it all so you can ALL be comfortable and enjoy the journey together. Try to be okay with sometimes saying, “it is what it is.” This coming from a person with a ‘to do’ list that is 8 pages long. literally. Praying for peace and compartmentalizing to you. hugsReplyCancel

Just catching up on your blog… I’m sorry that things have been tough since your return. πŸ™ I hope that as more things get sold or donated and the house gets emptier you’ll start feeling better. Super Mom can come out to play again when you get back on the road. No parent is a super parent 100% of the time, so give yourself some slack for a little bit and then bring her back out again in a few weeks. Besides, if you’re always Super Mom your kids won’t appreciate it. πŸ™‚ Sending you hugs!ReplyCancel
