Intentional Living Requires Courage

Several months ago, in the middle of research and planning the basic logistics of this adventure, The Lord reminded us to have courage. There are many things about this adventure that were unknown to us before we started. I’d never owned a truck, and though I’d driven a few, I had never, ever attempted to…

This Week on Instagram: January 18-24, 2014

We made it to New Mexico! After a brief stint with a sick 3 year old, we landed in Brantley Lake State Park outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico. We spent a great few days there, explored the caves, earned another junior ranger badge and enjoyed the sunrises. We also drove through White Sands National Monument…

  • Great talking to you at City of Rocks SP! The astronomy night worked out perfect. Kids inspired, great clear weather and got to swap traveling family stories. Perfect! Looking at your website – which looks incredible btw – I see so many similarities to our trip. The most surprising of all was your pic of Robot Turtles! We have that new game, too (backed it on Kickstarter). The developer is a neighbor of a friend in Seattle. We’ve only played it a few times, but have enjoyed it so far. We love games and have a number on the trip with us.

Lastly, my wife says the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum was good, but not an absolute must. In the end, it’s a zoo. A good zoo, but still just a zoo. Hope that helps in your decision process. Enjoy Saguaro Natl Park. Also, if do visit Phoenix, we definitely recommend Lost Dutchman State Park. We enjoyed the science museum in Phoenix, too. It’s a long drive from the campground, but fun and free with the museum reciprocity.

    Happy and safe travels!ReplyCancel

  • New Mexico has a number of wonderful spots. We stayed at Brantley Lake near the very end of our last long trip. We only stayed two nights as that was our “lodging” location for visiting Carlsbad.ReplyCancel

Having Friends Over to Play

One of the things I think my kids & I both miss are play dates. The kind where the moms get to sit on the couch and chat while the kids run around and play like cray for hours. There are a few friends back home where life is easier when they are over. The…

The Virginia Historic Triangle: You Should Skip Williamsburg and Visit Jamestown Settlement With Your Kids Instead

It was by sheer luck that we visited Jamestown Settlement first. We were having a hot dog roast over at a friends house in Virginia and I casually mentioned we were headed down to Williamsburg the next morning. “Oh! You definitely should visit the Jamestown Settlement. It’s perfect for young kids and really close by,”…

Proper Care and Feeding of a Work-From-Home, Self-Employed Husband

One of our most frequent questions is, “How do you spend so much time with your husband?” (Replace “husband” with “kids” and you’ll get another frequently asked question, but that’s another blog post entirely.) Some people find the thought of their husband working from home, in their space all the time completely unfathomable, and I…

  • This is great! I’ve been wanting to get into working from home for a while and this will help guide our family discussion about it over the next few weeks. Glad you guys have found what works well for your family.ReplyCancel

  • Great post! I would have serious problems with #4. 😉ReplyCancel

Haha! It definitely takes some practice!ReplyCancel

  • I worked from home for the first 2 1/1 yrs of our marriage, as I already had a freelance business. After we moved to Florida I ended up taking a job. And all that did was reaffirm how much we don’t like being apart. Having our first child made it totally unbearable.ReplyCancel

Amen! We made it about 2 months into Sam’s “real” job after college before I begged him to come work from home again. 😉ReplyCancel

This is so great. My husband is working remotely about 80% of the time for the first time in our 8 year marriage. We have two little ones and it’s been a big adjustment for all of us. It’s been amazing, but definitely more of a challenge than either of us thought it would be. I appreciate the tips.ReplyCancel
