The Camping Spot We Almost Didn’t Find – George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, Minnesota

I’m pretty sure we are the only people that leave our Airstream travel trailer in one state park to back country camp in a completely different one. I suppose that doubles up on fees for the night, but if you think about the fact that when a “normal’ person goes camping they are also paying…

Thanks for all of the details! We love camping along the North Shore and are hoping to try out Manitou this summer with our 9, 7, and 6 year olds. Your post encouraged me in our desire to introduce our kids to backpacking (a change from the pull-up camp sites we’re used to).ReplyCancel

You are welcome! This would be a great spot for a first over-night backpacking trip!ReplyCancel

  • I am interested in your backpacking meals. You mentioned that you tried some new meals. Are these purchased? Do you assemble them yourselves? If you do assemble them, where do you find the ingredients? Am so inspired by your blog!ReplyCancel

  • My husband and I just returned from a short overnight up at Crosby-Manitou and we had a similar experience overall, including the struggle with finding/identifying the campsite. I’m glad your family didn’t have to deal with the overnight thunderstorm and soaked campsite that we had, however, even though the promise of a dry car & clothes was just a few miles away.

What a great park! Thanks so much for the story, photos and freezer-bag meal ideas!ReplyCancel

So glad you went! Bummer about the rain, but sometimes that’s just part of the adventure. Cheers!ReplyCancel

I am amazed that your children do so well. great for you and your family!!ReplyCancel

Sam vs The Off-Season Canoe Rental

Our visit to the Bruin Lake Campground of the Pinckney Recreation Area was intended to be a little quiet and boring. Our loop of Lake Superior and subsequent re-entry into the USA and visits with friends left us with a list of stuff that just needed to get done. We even passed on a wonderful…
