I’m Sam, and I’m a geek. Not the game playing, Comic-Con attending type, but more the uber cool, see into the future, love cool toys kind of geek. I think I’m a pretty flexible guy. In the last week I’ve had an office in the basement of a friend’s house, a random library in Omaha, NE, and then a beautiful campground on the border of Illinois & Indiana. People often wonder if our wandering is because of a job – and I’d like to think that’s at least partly true. Working from home, being self-employed has allowed us greater flexibility in our life than we ever thought possible. Normally I’m home for all three meals – I’ll often put our youngest down for her nap so Jess can run errands. Sometimes I’ll wander upstairs to get a snack, realize how gorgeous of a day it is and 5 minutes later I’m out on a bike ride.
One of the hardest things about wandering is temporarily giving up some of my hobbies. Stepping into the garage and pulling out my tools to fix something in the house, or turning something really cool on the lathe are relaxing. Its my down time. Or heading out into the backyard and digging ditches for our sprinkler system so we can finally put grass in. My hobbies tend to be things that are completely unrelated to working on a computer and I like it that way.
