Welcome!

Hi there! We are the Curren Family. We traveled full time in our Airstream from 2013-2017 and now split our time between our small condo in Teton Valley, ID and the road.

As avid, outdoor, travel and adventure enthusiasts we are here to provide tips, advice, and inspiration to help you develop healthier and stronger family relationships.

Sometimes We Just Need a Break

Full time travel burnout is real. Our life may look carefree and happy all the time, but behind the scenes there’s hours of planning, stress over work, getting school done, and wondering where on earth we are going to stay that night. I also stress about “seeing all the things” so when there is a…

YES! All of this! I was getting burned out before we got to Yellowstone and it continued because the first week were here we were in the park nearly every day. I hit a wall. The past 2 weeks we’ve spent nearly every day at the camper just hanging out, catching up on work and school, and loving on each other. It’s been SO nice! We have just under a week left here and we’re all so antsy to get back on the road. It’s, by far, the longest we’ve ever stayed in one place. It was a really nice break.ReplyCancel

Minnesota is Warmer Than I Thought It Would Be

Someone I had in my head a vision of the Great Lakes region being relatively cool during the summer. Everyone is just out frolicking on the lakes, sailing, and cycling in their free time in amazingly temperate weather. Turns out it gets hot. And humid. We’ve had a couple of really mild weather days, but…

  • Hi! I don’t think we’ve met, but we have a lot of people in common. My kids write TurtleTells. We thought just like you did, that Minnesota, Wisconsin, and etc., would be chilly, and it was! We were there in June, and it was cold!

We saw that you’re from Lehi. We’re parked in a friend’s driveway in Highland right this very minute…ReplyCancel

Hi Bianca! Thanks for commenting. How fun that you are in Highland! We’ll be back in Sept to visit my family that still lives in Sandy. I can’t wait to see the mountains again. Make sure you take a drive up American Fork Canyon as its gorgeous!ReplyCancel

Strawberry Picking & I Run Our Bikes Into an Overhang

I honestly knew it would happen sooner or later. I’ve heard horror stories of friends forgetting they had bikes mounted to the top of the car when they pulled into their garage. Since we are frequently carrying all 5 bikes around on the back of our truck, I kind of forget they are there sometimes…

Keeping Things In Perspective

We had a great vacation with my family in Minnesota a few weeks ago and it led me to some deeper thoughts about our life, distractions, and keeping it all in perspective. I posted this thought to Instagram and I had a friend respond with, “To me it seems like your mobile life has eliminated…

That is definitely my to distraction too, and one that I want to break. I think I justify it because social media is one of the ways I keep in touch with friends and family back home. And I always have my phone with me to take pictures. But really, I’m spending way too much time just surfing around and reading blogs. I’d love to hear more about your efforts to control this distraction.ReplyCancel

  • I am guilty of spending to much time on social media. However, I find that as a stay at home mom that social media is also a way to help me feel connected to a broader and more diverse group of adults. I don’t have co-workers. I don’t have school mates. I have the parents of my kids’ friends, family and a few best friends. I think social media is a great way to fill the gap, give me some adult interaction, expand my community and also find a community of people who are interested in similar things as me so our common thread isn’t just that we live on the same street or our kids’ go to the same school… we actually have something in common!ReplyCancel

I totally agree with helping me feel connected! I’ve definitely met some great people through social media. 😉 I think sometimes I give more attention to that than other things.ReplyCancel

  • I get on too much or I end up reading too much probably 🙂 I feel like things like that are a lifeline sometimes. It is hard not to feel isolated with where I am right now in life. Glimpses into others lives(real or fiction) make me feel a little less alone. It seems like my friends are harder to pin down right now to visit with. I know to everything there is a season. I am working to enjoy this one but also looking forward to a different one at the same time. I do love to it when my husband and I go backpacking or camping and do not have a signal though 🙂 Forces our world to become really small and just about us.ReplyCancel

Does Your Family Have a “Thing”?

Many times over the years Sam and I have had conversations about family identity. Out of everything we do and are, what actually defines us as “Currens”? When our kids get asked about their family, I want them to know exactly what we are and what we do. For me, family identity is right up…

  • I think about this a lot too when we are treading water and just trying to keep up. I want our family to be so much more than just “surviving the daily grind”. Right now our thing is “being outside as much as possible” and of course “Renovating Alice while kids play on the rope swings and slackline in the backyard” 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Exploring, hiking, canoeing, trail running, faith. Those are our things. Although in recent months some have taken a back burner and might have to for several years. Grace is our thing right now. I keep coming back to seasons. I never saw my life looking like it does and it takes a lot of grace but even in the mess, there is so much beauty.ReplyCancel
