About Us

Welcome!

Hi there! We are the Curren Family. We traveled full time in our Airstream from 2013-2017 and now split our time between our small condo in Teton Valley, ID and the road.

As avid, outdoor, travel and adventure enthusiasts we are here to provide tips, advice, and inspiration to help you develop healthier and stronger family relationships.

But We HAVE To Do EVERYTHING

I have this problem. You see, when we are in an area I feel like we absolutely have to do everything scenic, beautiful, fun, exciting, and adventurous within 20 miles. Its ridiculous, but nevertheless, I feel that way. We are hanging out in Portland, Oregon for the week (9 days to be exact) and I…

  • We had to develop a mindset of “leaving something for a future visit” – otherwise the stress of trying to do/see everything is overwhelming.ReplyCancel

Exactly. Even if you don’t know for sure there will be a next time. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • We only move our home every three months for work, so we pretty much have time to get everything done on our bucket list for an area. By the 8-10 week mark, we are usually itching to go to the next location. I think that’s the caveat of families who are always on the go, they all seem to feel overwhelmed by their own schedules.ReplyCancel

And we travel slower than some! But yes, it does get overwhelming. I think I’d get crazy bored at 3 months though. lol!ReplyCancel

I used to feel that way to, but at some point it just became too exhausting to fit it all in. Especially when you add work into the equation. There is just no way we can ever see and do it all. Now I am content to choose a few favorite activities and leave the rest for next time. And when we do make those return visits, it’s fun to then pick up where we left off with the things we missed the first time around.ReplyCancel

How Much Does It Cost To Live in an Airstream: August 2014 Summary

August has been great! We spent the majority of our time along the coast between Willits, CA and Crescent City, CA. We then meandered into Oregon seeing the Oregon Caves National Monument, Medford & Ashland, Crater Lake and finally into our boondocking spot in Bend. Oregon has been great so far! I’ll detail a post…

Costco overspending is NOT a problem IF it fits somewhere and you use it before anything goes bad. 🙂 I wish I could just shop at Costco…ReplyCancel

Thanks so much for sharing this each month. It’s so interesting to see the differences and similarities in our Airstream expenses. You must have a knack for finding the most inexpensive laundromats ever. There are only two of us and I can’t get out of there for less than $25. Do you use your propane for everything (fridge, heat, hot water heater, cooking), even when you’re connected to shore power? We haven’t filled our propane since February, but we only use it for cooking, shore power for the rest.ReplyCancel

    • Jess

Absolutely! I’m glad its fun. 🙂 We do not use propane for everything. Typically we’ll switch the fridge over (or it does it automatically) and we have an electric heater. Hot water and cooking we don’t have a choice though. Those are always propane. We seem to need to fill one a month right now which is totally doable.ReplyCancel

Where Do We Put Everything? Bedroom Edition

With our remodel of the bedroom area in the Airstream also came a rearranging of storage space. Pre-remodel, the queen bed lifted up and there was a huge storage area underneath. Although it was great, some things were hard to get to, and part of the space was accessible only via the outdoor access panel….

  • I love posts like this. It helps me visualize how we would pack. I love the spring idea. Did Sam have to order them or were they easy to find at a Home Depot or other big box home store?ReplyCancel

Wandering Update: Lava River Tubes in Oregon

We recently spent some time exploring the Lava River Tubes outside of Bend, Oregon. While we’ve visited quite a few caves in the last year, this one we were allowed to explore on our own without a guide. Probably our favorite way to cave. Enjoy!
