Moochdocking in Driggs, Idaho With a Surprise Family Visit

img_20160724_204122

Travel Dates: June 27 – July 11, 2016.

With no agenda other than making it out to California for our Curren family reunion by August 5th, we were unsure what to do for the month of July. Pageant in June was fabulous, but we were itching for cooler weather, hiking, and a change of scenery. After a few weeks of back and forth, we decided to head up to Driggs, ID to see Sam’s family and go from there. We could moochdock at his brother’s house and have some much needed time to decompress from pageant.

Unfortunately we were delayed by an unexpected trip to the Airstream dealer in Salt Lake City to work on our brakes. They had been bothering us (well, mostly Sam) for sometime and after a trip to Costco to restock the essentials we headed to Salt Lake for a quick stop on our way to Idaho.

“Making a (hopefully) quick stop at the Airstream dealer in Salt Lake City to get our brakes fixed. We still have one stupid tire that over brakes and skids. This problem has been plaguing us for a year. Keeping our fingers crossed they are working it out!” -@jesscurren

“Quick” ended up being overnight, so we packed a bag and crashed at Grandma & Grandpa’s house in Sandy for the night. They were delighted to see us and we had a relaxing evening despite wanting to get to Idaho as fast as possible.

The following day also took longer than expected to sort out the problem, but by 2pm we were on our way to Driggs! The kids were great in the car even though we arrived after dark at our destination. Luckily its super easy to just throw everyone in bed and take care of the logistics in the morning.

Sam’s brother travels extensively for work, but has always invited to make ourselves at home while he is away. The kids immediately made good use of his living room to build a blanket fort and we enjoyed long, hot showers in the house.

Not one to sit still, 2 days after we arrived I packed the kids in the car for a drive to meet a blogging friend up in Island Park. We did a buggy, but nice hike around Harriman State Park and had a great time chatting and getting to know each other.

“Took the afternoon and drove up to Island Park to meet up with the @mountainmomtots family on their National Park to Park Tour. We went by the visitor center at Harriman State Park and borrowed their Jr. Ranger packs. These two then spent the next hour trying to catch bugs with their nets.” – @currentlywandering

“I love meeting like minded families and hanging out with fellow blogger @mountainmomtots today was a blast! They are on a seven week National Park to Park Tour for the Centennial year and have put together quite the adventure mobile! Make sure to follow along as they visit Yellowstone and then head over to Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, and Montana for a total of 5,600 miles and 17 National Park Service Sites in less than 2 months!” -@currentlywandering

Jake arrived the evening of June 30th, and the next day we both played hookie and rode the mountain bike lifts at Grand Targhee. It was a fabulous day – although riding a hard tail on downhill trails is a bit of a workout!

“Rode the lifts at Grand Targhee with my brother in law @freshaire_dad yesterday. The views from the top were stunning, including this peek at the Teton mountains. Turns out downhill mountain biking on a hard tail is a killer workout for both my arms and my calves.” -@jesscurren

“The Teton Valley is one of my favorite places in the country. The fact that it’s also one of the best places to mountain bike doesn’t hurt either. ” -@currentlywandering

Saturday we managed to get quite the list of chores accomplished. We desperately needed to vacuum out the Airstream and catch up on all the little projects we never had time for. Fortunately, nature abounds in the Teton Valley and we set out for an afternoon hike along Teton Pass. Just being up there and looking out over Jackson and the gorgeous Teton mountains just confirmed that we were falling in love with this little corner of the earth.

“My afternoon was… riveting. This is the leftovers after I replaced a slew of belly pan rivets under the Airstream today. Not terribly difficult, but I do recommend finding some concrete to make the job easier.” -@telegramsam

“After chores this morning we managed to get out for a short hike along the Pass Ridge Trail at the top of Teton Pass in the late afternoon. Wildflowers and beautiful views of Jackson, WY were abundant and we only hiked half the trail!” -@currentlywandering

“After a short hike at the top of Teton Pass, Rachel, Andrew and I rode down a 4 mile stretch of the Old Teton Pass Road, now converted into a paved multi-use trail. The views were spectacular, but the grade was steep enough to require constant braking.” -@telegramsam

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last 3 years of full time travel, it’s to fully embrace who I am and what I love doing. That’s led to a whole lot of scenic views, photography, and some pretty incredible experiences with my family.” -@currentlywandering

4th of July has never been my favorite holiday, but I was itching to do something. I looked up events in nearby towns and we settled on driving over to Rexburg (about 45 minutes) for their parade. We were also able to meet up with two other traveling families (one had just settled in Rexburg) which made it even more fun.

After a stop at Pizza Pie Cafe for a lunch buffet we headed back to Driggs to do our own fireworks. Not the grandest of holidays, but it felt good to celebrate at least a little bit.

“Drove to Rexburg this morning for the parade and to meet up with some fellow traveling friends. Followed up with all you can eat pizza and we’ll shoot off fireworks this evening. Happy holiday everyone!” -@jesscurren

“Had our own little firework show out in front of the house. Tired, a little sunburnt from the parade and completely happy & content to be here with my family.” – @currentlywandering

More chores followed in the week after along with both Rachel and I coming down with the worst cold EVER. It was miserable. Despite feeling terrible, we managed to plug along with chores and school. The kids enjoyed taking their recess breaks on the trampoline and I enjoyed having their attention diverted.  Maybe this house thing wasn’t so bad.

“Taking full advantage of our #moochdocking situation to get some much needed repairs done and give the ol’ girl a good scrub. It’s ridiculously beautiful here.” -@currentlywandering

“Couples who recaulk the windows on their Airstream together, stay together. ” -@jesscurren

“In addition to a much needed scrub, the Airstream needed some new caulk around the front windows. Our aging window seals had developed leaks that admitted a small amount of water in rainstorms. I also discovered a missing screw on one of the rock guard hinges. With that replaced and caulk done, we are in much better shape for future wet weather. On a related note, Adseal is nice to work with.” -@telegramsam

13658305_298765827124164_703046978_n-1

“Rachel and I got slammed with the nastiest of colds this week so we have been laying pretty low. Unfortunately that also means we are a little stir crazy, so we muscled up enough energy to drive down to Victor and check out the bike park. Pretty fun for such a small town! Followed it up with ice cream at the Emporium and called it a wrap. We are definitely falling in love with this beautiful valley!” – @currentlywandering

“Kids are learning a new sport thanks to Uncle Jake having a few skateboards stashed at his house.” -@jesscurren

At the tail end of the week we had my cousin and her family come stay with us in Driggs. They were headed to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and we volunteered to save them some money on hotels. Plus, that meant our kids could spend time with their older second cousins which just warmed my heart completely.

They were gone quite a bit out touring the parks, but we managed to gather Sunday evening for a family BBQ. Serendipitously my brother and his family were also in Grand Teton, so they made the drive over the pass to come as well.

It was a big, fun, amazing evening with my family in Sam’s brother’s house. Kind of a funny situation, but Jake was just glad the house could be used while he was away.

13652169_831097710359740_1170784795_n

“Serendipitously I had a cousin come to town from southern CA to vacation while at the same time my brother and his family were in Jackson. Big family party tonight with hamburgers, lots of extended cousins time, plenty of trampoline jumping and s’mores. Family is the best!” -@jesscurren

That evening my brother Josh informed me of their plans to hike Jenny Lake the following morning. The weather hadn’t been amazing (cold and rainy, really) but they were going no matter what. Jenny Lake has always been on my list, so we played hookie and left early Monday morning to go with them.

So glad we did as the hike was just what we needed! The kids all did great despite the cold temperatures and we enjoyed spending time with family before they left for Yellowstone.

“It snowed as we drove over Teton Pass this morning, but that didn’t stop us crazy hikers. Met up with my brother and his family to hike Inspiration Point in Grand Teton National Park. Hiking with cousins is always twice as much fun!” -@currentlywandering

13651821_482268491959454_1765844368_n

“What the kids look like when it’s 32 degrees outside in JULY but we are going hiking anyway. Naturally we warmed up as we hiked and gradually shed a few layers, but it was cold to start!” -@jesscurren

13643596_1762883887301649_1228906527_n

“That is one happy boy on a boat, and one happy pre-teen hanging out with her baby cousin.” -@jesscurren

13671211_137945576635450_902022348_n

“He may look cute, but these chipmunks at the top of Inspiration Point in Grand Teton NP were a menace. We could easily tell they had been fed too much by hikers as they were very aggressive. A fed animal is a dead animal people. They may give you those pleading eyes but once dependent on human food animals lose the ability to forage for themselves.” -@currentlywandering

13658314_900547836738534_1712637522_n

“I’m going to spend the rest of this week at a conference, so we escaped into the wild today. A beautiful 5 mile hike to Inspiration Point at Jenny Lake (and a boat ride back) was just perfect.

Except for the aggressive and obviously human fed chipmunks at the top. 😕” -@telegramsam

We were sad to say goodbye to our family, but before we parted to made plans to meet up in Canada next summer. Always love having something to look forward to!

Mountain Biking at Flat Rock Ranch, Texas

This last spring we spent a few weeks in Texas. After playing tourist in San Antonio we were ready for a break in the country. We made a quick stop at the WoomBike headquarters to pick up some demo bikes and then we headed out into the hill country to Flat Rock Ranch – a private ranch that has also built miles of mountain biking trails.

Travel Dates: March 31st – April 2nd, 2016

Ha! Currently more bikes than people. Good thing @woombikesusa had a really sweet @sea_sucker sucker rack we could borrow for the roof. Can’t wait to hit the trails this weekend! -@currentlywandering

11326981_1756873007867512_1132419710_n

The kids wasted no time getting right to the business of playing with friends. We were joined by @livinginthemomentum and couldn’t be happier to spend the weekend hitting the trails with them!

This particular weekend was also our General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were planning to hang out and ride trails in between watching and listening sessions on Saturday.

“Starting the weekend a little early and I can tell it’s going to be a good one!” -@jesscurren

Once the trails mostly dried out the next day we went for a ride. Margaret Leigh and I went on a girls’ ride and the Sam borrowed a mountain bike so that the two of us could go out together. Definitely solidified our desire to trade the cyclo cross bike  for a second mountain bike.

The trails at Flat Rock Ranch are pretty varied. There are some incredibly technical climbs that I can’t imagine anyone being able to ride, but also some great swoopy downhill sections, lung busting climbs (that aren’t so technical), and beautiful views!

Cara managed to loose her first front tooth and with the addition of her new glasses, she suddenly looks much older than almost 6. Our baby is growing up!

Love that we have been able to spend so much time with our road friends! The kids set up a tent among the hammocks for a play area. They attempted to sleep in it, but luckily they all came in as we had a wicked hail and rain storm our first night. While it made us a little nervous there was no serious damage.

“Math Question: if we had a dime for every piece of dime-sized hail in@jesscurren‘s hands, how much money would she be holding?” – @telegramsam

“Our vehicle for adventure. Although today’s overcast and windy weather might call for baking and curling up with a good book.” – @currentlywandering

We did find some trails for the kids to ride! Some of it they had to walk, but most was single track and pretty ride-able for the older kids. Cara didn’t do much riding, but she wasn’t really in the mood and we didn’t want to push her.

In between sessions of#ldconf we hit the trails in various groups. The older kids and moms (@livinginthemomentum), just Sam and I, and one last ride with just me and@riveted_rachel. This girl kills it on the uphills. So proud of her and happy to be her mom. Even we fight. Love you kid! -@currentlywandering

DSCF4457-1Our last night we threw wood together and had a roaring campfire to keep away the chill. Loved relaxing and talking with our friends while most of the kids had a late movie night in the trailer!

Campfires with friends on a ranch in Texas hill country. Doesn’t get much better! -@currentlywandering

We had a fantastic weekend! I love being able to camp right in a trail system as it makes riding so much faster and easier! The kids can stay at the trailer and play while the adults get out and there’s no commute!

Rapid Travel From Arkansas to Utah

Our travel pace is usually pretty slow, by design. Our average ‘move’ is only about 100 miles, and we move about every 3 to 5 days. This varies of course, but we commonly travel our average pace. We have often talked about executing a ‘fast’ move to linger a little longer in one place and still make our planned destination, and we recently did just that.

In May we moved 1,114 miles in 5 days, driving through pieces of 6 states, which is about 10 times our usual pace. We did this to spend extra time mountain biking in Arkansas and still arrive in Utah when planned. This might not sound like much of a push, but consider that we are working, schooling, and living ‘normal’ life along the way.

We’ve found the trick to covering a large distance is to: 1) make sure you have a rest day in there somewhere and 2) break up a longer distance (6 hour drive) by leaving late in the afternoon, over-nighting at a truck stop/Wal-Mart, etc. and then covering the remaining distance early the following morning.

Here’s how we did this particular fast paced trip from Arkansas to Utah:

Monday

Bella Vista, AR to Red Rock Canyon State Park, OK.
Distance: 297 miles
Time: 5 hours

13118351_876508039162542_1086887877_n

We left early-ish, mostly to avoid a storms that would be hitting Bella Vista later that morning. We still had some rain on our drive, but managed to avoid most of it. We made a stop in Tulsa, OK at the newly opened Costco for some much needed supplies. I also had a local brake shop check (and then replace) my front truck brakes. They had been feeling odd, and it was definitely time for a replacement. I was grateful that I had done so when we faced a steep road with sharp turns when we arrived at Red Rock Canyon State Park.

After arriving mid-afternoon, we made sure to get out for a walk and enjoy the park for the little time we were there.

13181493_282065215459346_1085909197_n

Tuesday

Red Rock Canyon State Park, OK to New Mexico / Texas State Line
Distance: 287 miles
Time: 5 hours

Tuesday was the first half of what we call a ‘split-drive.’ When facing a longer hop, we leave late and drive partway, overnight somewhere, and finish the drive in the morning.

We spent the morning working, schooling, and a even got in a workout. We pulled up the crazy scary hill (in 4WD low!) and made a quick stop at the hardware store for some… spray paint! More on that in a moment.

We made a stop in Shamrock, TX to visit a cute little visitors center remade in classic style along Route 66. We enjoyed our visit, but didn’t stick around for the view of the classic neon lights after dark because of our next adventure for the day.

“Epic driving today across Oklahoma, Texas, and into New Mexico. Stopped for a quick break at the Center of Commerce in Shamrock, Texas along the historic Route 66. I thought it was quite fitting that Cara watched the movie “Cars” before we arrived.” – Jess

13126719_630598663785501_367371797_n Just west of Amarillo, TX is the famed Cadillac Ranch, where we stopped for a break and some graffiti practice. The kids thought it was pretty cool to spray paint these old cars!

“The kids took adding their mark to Cadillac Ranch very seriously. Like, seriously? We get to do this? We brought two cans of spray paint (red and blue) but were able to use many other colors people before us left behind. Turns out gold, silver, and black do a great job outlining whatever it is you are painting. Maybe next time we’ll brush up on our graffiti art skills before we stop by.” – Jess

“It was such a departure from our usual activities, and party of what made today great.

On the way out, we picked up all the empty spray cans and left with smiles on our faces.” – Sam

13188111_1579250909071424_1557278115_n

We enjoyed an unhurried experience and then grabbed dinner at nearby Subway truck stop to eat during the last leg of our journey.

We headed West again as the sun was setting, arriving at the Texas/Oklahoma state line rest area / visitors center right at dusk. We found a truck parking space on the edge of the lot, and headed to bed without much ceremony.

Wednesday

New Mexico / Texas State Line to Cochiti Lake Recreation Area, NM
Distance: 234 miles
Time: 3.5 hours

We awoke to find a semi-truck parked a ‘little’ close, but after a quick cereal breakfast we left without incident and headed into New Mexico.

13118133_232388310470876_1831304767_nWe made quick stop at the grocery store for supplies in Sante Fe, and then arrived mid-day at Cochiti Lake. We picked a dry camping site which totally boggled the mind of our neighbors as there were still hook up sites available. The weather was going to be reasonably cool, we had plenty of sun for our solar panels and we weren’t staying long enough to need a sewer connection. Plus, the dry camping sites were only $10/night! Can’t beat that. Overall the campground was quiet and reasonably spaced, and we enjoyed not moving as we worked and relaxed for the remainder of the afternoon.

Thursday

Rest Day  at Tent Rocks National Monument

After a morning of school and work, we headed out in the afternoon to hike at Tent Rocks National Monument.  One of our traveling friends had mentioned this was one of their favorite places so we were excited to see what it had to offer! There’s no campground, and one main loop hike that most people come to do.

The hike included a slot canyon which all of us love! After a fairly steep (but doable) switchback up a large hill we were rewarded with an amazing view of the surrounding area!

These rock formations are different than anything we had seen, and we loved exploring here.

Tent Rocks NM_23

Friday

Cochiti Lake Rec Area, NM to Hovenweep National Monument, UT.
Distance: 296 miles
Time: 5 hours

Our final stretch of driving took us out of New Mexico, across the corner of Colorado, and barely into Utah. We managed to find an epic pull off for lunch – it looked like a combination of the Badlands in South Dakota and the Painted Hills in Oregon.

13151212_1773256849577295_1734241122_n

We had heard that Hoveenweep National Monument was a great stop, and we planned to hang out there for the weekend before heading up to Moab to meet friends. Hovenweep is a fair distance from anything, which made it a peaceful location to explore and recover from our fast travel week. More on our visit there later as it turned out to be a pretty epic place to explore!

DSCF5415-Edit

We had quite a few longer drives in the car (2-3 hours) and to keep everyone’s sanity in check Jess and I alternated driving while the other person worked. I was able to keep up pretty well on work, especially because I had most mornings to get a few hours in before we drove anyway (minus the overnight stop).

The kids listened to their audio books, read, played with toys, watched movies, played Minecraft, and we listened to Harry Potter as a family. The kids were actually pretty excited about some long car days as they get to watch movies and play the tablet more than they would if we were sitting still!

It was so unusual for us to breeze through so many places without pausing, but in a way it was a bit refreshing to cover so much distance in such a short time. Although there were places we could have explored a bit more, we reminded ourselves of the extra time we had in Arkansas and just moved on. Though ‘warp’ drives like this likely won’t happen frequently, we are glad to know we can move fast if needed.

Detour for a Service Project & Some Horses

Leaving New Orleans around mid-morning on Saturday we headed to Baton Rouge, LA to attend an endowment session at the temple. We parked the Airstream in the lot, and the kids hung out and watched a movie while Sam and I went inside. Grateful to our awesome kids that do so well on their own and give us opportunities like this!

DSCF4031

“Spring! Short stop in Baton Rouge, LA this afternoon to attend an endowment session inside the beautiful LDS temple. Love the peace, comfort, and excitement we felt today. Life is good and the future is even brighter!” – Jess

“We decided during breakfast this morning to attend a session at the Baton Rouge LDS Temple. We made it with only minutes to spare. By awesome coincidence, our college friend Jason was in the SAME SESSION, having driven 7 hours to be there to attend with a friend. We loved seeing him, and discovered that his wonderful family lives quite near a planned stop in Texas in a few weeks.” – Sam

We spent the night at Wal-Mart in Lake Charles and took the house to church on Sunday. Recently, the Sabine River had overflowed (even closing down the freeway between Louisiana and Texas) and there were many homes filled with water. After sacrament meeting, Bishop stood up and asked the brethren to go home, change, and come back ready to help families clean out their houses.

Orange Texas_02

“The Sabine river runs down the Texas / Louisiana border, and was flooded high enough to shut down I-10. The Highway is back open now, but plenty of homes have suffered damage. Church today was cut short as volunteers were organized to help those with damaged homes. We were grateful for the chance to serve, and found ourselves working alongside many others to clean out rooms and remove damaged paneling and carpet. So anyway, today we learned about service at church.” – Sam

We jumped at the chance to serve and were able to spend a few hours helping a family clean their soaking wet possessions out of their house and stripping the walls down to studs. In the process we met the Evans family who invited us out to their farm for dinner, a bonfire, a zipline, and good conversation and company! Super grateful for their generosity and friendship!

Orange Texas_08

Orange Texas_07 Orange Texas_15

“During our work project yesterday, we met the nicest family that was helping as well. They insisted that we bring our house over to their house for a night. The kids loved playing with friends, and everybody enjoyed a zipline across the horse pasture. Thank you, Evans Family, for being so good to us!” – Sam

“I love that today didn’t turn out remotely as planned. After hearing at church that volunteers were needed for flood/disaster clean up, we changed our schedule and landed in the town of Orange with new friends after a good three hours of work. We ended the day with an amazing bonfire and great company. Life is good.” – Jess

Meetups, Donuts, and Beignets in New Orleans, LA

Travel Dates: March 15 – 18, 2016.

NOLA 2016_09

After leaving Florida and quick overnight in Mississippi, we headed to meet up with friends at Bayou Segnette State Park outside of New Orleans, LA. This was our second visit to New Orleans, and I was all for skipping it had we not been meeting up with friends. Also, beignets. I don’t think the kids would have forgiven us if we had skipped those!

First things first, we drove straight to Costco and got Cara an eye exam. We knew she probably needed glasses as she’s been squinting a lot when she reads, and Costco was the easiest and fastest way we could get her in to see someone. We got a prescription and then ordered glasses online to be sent ahead to San Antonio where we would be in about a week.

IMG_20160315_103708

“Cara had an eye exam this morning and we were able to procure a prescription for glasses. She’s farsighted (+1 and +.75) and glasses will really help her to read. Her siblings have been totally supportive and she’s super excited to wear them!”  -Jess

For school one day with our friends from @livinginthemomentum we visited the Barataria Preserve Unit of the Jean Lafitte National Historic park. We walked along the boardwalk, did our Jr. Ranger Books, and watched an incredibly old, outdated film that totally bored ALL the kids and the parents. If we hadn’t just come from Florida and the amazing Cypress Swamps there, maybe it would have been more impressive? At least we were with friends which always makes things more fun!

NOLA 2016_11

We also had the opportunity to meet up with a lot of friends! Heather & Mark from @livingistheadventure, Dave & Ann from @advodna_dave, and also @livinginthemomentum were all at the same state park. Although we never actually got ALL of us together at the same time, we did meet up occasionally for dinner, or to let the kids run around spraying each other

with the hose on a hot day.

IMG_20160317_160602490_HDR

IMG_20160319_103631402_HDR

“Along with our traveling buddies we also had the awesome@timphamdotcom and his super cute wife Kimmy out to the Airstream. Tim is a crazy good wedding photographer here in NOLA and it was fun to catch up! They are expecting their first child in about 2 weeks, and since they brought both soda AND cupcakes to our potluck feast we know they are going to be fabulous parents.” – Jess

“We misread the open dates for the swimming pool, which resulted in a pile of swimsuited kids and a sweltering afternoon. Water fight at the Currens! We were joined today by@advodna_dave, @livingistheadventure,@livinginthemomentum, and associated crews, and had a blast.” – Sam

Instead of driving into New Orleans like last time, we decided to take the ferry over since it cost about the same and we wouldn’t have to deal with parking the truck in the French Quarter which is never fun. It was as quick ride and deposited us only about 1/2 mile from downtown which was a great walk along the Mississippi River.

Our first stop was to visit the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park, but unfortunately all the music was done for the day, and since the building was getting ready to undergo renovations there wasn’t a whole lot to do. We quickly earned our Jr. Ranger badges and moved on to other things!

“We tend to travel in the spaces between large cities, as they are not our favorite places. Occasionally, however, the pull of local cuisine is too tempting and we make an exception. Such is the case with beignets in New Orleans. That and the Jazz music.” -Jess

NOLA 2016_02

Although the line had died down outside Cafe Du Mondeand we were seated quickly, it took FOREVER for someone to take our order. We entertained the kids by flipping our Jr. Ranger badges across the table, and arm wrestling. Once they came though, we devoured the fluffy, powdered-sugar covered goodness in minutes.

After that we took a walk through town up to Louis Armstrong Park. Its a well-done green space with a pond and the walk through the French Quarter architecture was pleasant enough. Naturally, we avoided Bourbon Street and got back to the ferry dock only to find it was closed due to mechanical failure. With our car on the other side of the river, we grabbed an Uber ride back across the bridge in no time. The kids were super impressed and it just added to the adventure!

NOLA 2016_08

Our beignet order at Cafe Du Monde took an unnaturally long time to make it to our table this afternoon, so entertainment was found by introducing our kids to arm wrestling. So cute they thought they could actually win!” – Jess

“We almost didn’t head into New Orleans today. We did anyway, and collected another Junior Ranger Badge and these delicious beignets. Yep, it was worth it. Even when the ferry broke down and had to Uber back across the river to where the truck was parked.” – Sam

We decided we had to run into town one more time to get donuts. The Instagram world told us we absolutely HAD to try District Donuts before we left because they were delicious. Yep. They were right. We also grabbed some sliders as a snack, plus a cinnamon roll and all of them were delicious. Definitely a great place to stock up on yummy food!

“I may have a thing for donuts, and this place could possibly rival Blue Star Donuts in Portland, OR. I think it’s good to have a favorite donut shop in every state. Just in case….” – Jess

“District Donuts on Magazine Street in New Orleans has flavors like Wedding Cake, Nola Cream, Lemon Blueberry, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and Mango Pink Peppercorn. We bought a dozen, and tried them all. #donutjudgeme” – Sam

One day in downtown, and a few days hanging out was plenty for us! New Orleans is not my favorite city, and although there is a lot of culture, we’ll probably stick with the spaces in between cities next time!

Next Up: We detour for a service project and make it into Texas!
