Hiking the Astoria Column & Nehalem Bay

TWOI Oct 18-24 2014

Travel Dates: October 18 – 24, 2014

We had some really awesome, beautiful days this last week, as well as some so rainy we couldn’t get out. I’m learning that is what life is like in the Pacific Northwest. Still trying to roll with it, but not being too successful.

We spent the weekend at Fort Stevens State Park, exploring both Ft. Clatsop and Astoria on Saturday afternoon. Our favorite serendipitous moment was meeting another full time family at the Astoria Column. With #swissarmy trucks we kind of stand out in a crowd. Chatting in the rain led to 2 hours hanging out at a local pizza parlor and we can’t wait to meet up with them this winter down south!

On our third attempt to see the shipwreck of the Peter Irendale, we finally had decent enough weather to brave the beach without getting blown over. While smaller than we expected, the shipwreck back lighted by the sunset was quite a sight!

Further down the coast, we spent a few nights at Nehalem Bay State Park, enjoyed exploring the dunes, watching the sunset over the water, and we went CRABBING! Definitely a highlight of our travels so far. We made a Wandering Update video we’ll share in the near future, but for now just imagine the girls screaming at the top of their lungs as we pulled the first pot full of wriggling, squiggling crabs up over the side and into the boat. It was epic.

We are now settled into Lincoln City for the next week to finish preparing for, and to celebrate Halloween with some friends. We are super excited!

For now here’s our Wandering Update from the Astoria Column. Enjoy!

What a great week! I’m pretty sure I always say that, but I really mean it this time. 🙂

After leaving Portland, we visited some family in Battle Ground, WA met up with new traveling friends in Morton and then settled near Lake Alder for some awesome R&R. Laying in the hammock has never felt so good!

Back to Salt Lake City Because My Husband Loves Me

This Week on Instagram July 5-11 2014

From skiing on a glacier in Great Basin National Park, to playing in the water at Payson Lakes Campground in the Uinta National Forest, this week has been great! The kids earned their Jr. Ranger vests (and we found some their sizes).

We also visited some friends in our hometown of Lehi, Utah and had our truck looked out (we lost some bolts on our exhaust manifold) and were able to visit the Timpanogos Temple.

We are spending the weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah so Jess can attend a photography workshop and the next week we head to California. Can’t wait!

We Leave the Lehi House and Head to Bryce Canyon

Travel Dates: June 21-27, 2014

I think this has probably been the laziest week ever. And boy did we ever need it! After tent camping Friday night at one of our favorite spots up American Fork Canyon, we spent the weekend parked and friend’s and family’s houses. We left around 11am Monday morning and made it to Bryce Canyon National Park around dinner. And then…. nothing. For like 3 days. It was bliss. In pajamas until noon, reading books, playing tablets, eating good food and just finally getting the opportunity to relax. It has been heaven.

Jess’ parents have joined us for the annual Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival, with her dad bringing his telescope and volunteering two nights. Lots of hiking, playing games, and enjoying this beautiful park and the amazing weather!

Work, Projects & Play in Utah

This Week on Instagram June 7-13 2014

Travel Dates: June 7-13, 2014

Work projects and play. That’s pretty much what our week has been. Sam doing work projects, and Jess playing with the kids. I think its a toss up as to who is more tired. Sam installed our new skylight, put the rain covers over the vents, strung wire for the new internet antenna, and finished up the bike rack for the back of the truck. We also found and bought our final bike: a cyclocross! We are super excited about that. We visited Hale Center Theater in Orem for their production of Peter Pan, and Jess took the kids to the Discovery Children’s Museum in SLC for a fun day of play!
